Scoring Practise

A collection of clips used for scoring practise in between projects

This beautiful AW 19/20 collection by Iris Van Herpen was the inspiration for this piece. The juxtaposition of her influences from nature with the use of mechanical structures by collaborator Anthony Howe, mirrors my fascination with combining organic and electronic sounds, so I was really keen write something in response to one of her collections.

All sounds in this piece were created using lemon and onion storage pods, a metal flan pan, the Moog mother 32 synth and my voice with the Meris Hedra pedal.

This piece was written in response to the images in the cursed tape from the 2002 version of The Ring, directed by Gore Verbinski. This is an American remake of the original Japanese movie from 1998, Ring (or Ringu) by Hideo Nakata. The original score was by Hans Zimmer with the sound design by Peter Miller.

This cursed tape was created by visual effects company Method Studios who also worked on the special effects throughout the film. The tape is a compilation of specific images which relate to the story of Samara, the force behind what goes on in the movie.

I had loads of fun working on this! All sounds were created using just alto sax and the Meris Hedra pedal.

Dr Sleep Trailer - I started this piece by just thinking about textures and what each feeling, movement, colour, action or character would sound like to me. After recording these ideas into a graphic score I did some field recording and those sounds became the foundations of the composition.

Sounds included are a melon rolling, radiator tapped with a wooden spoon, a dish drainer, prepared piano, voice, Moog Mother 32 and Theremini.

Opening titles for Killing Eve - As a big fan of this show I thoght this title sequence would be fun to rescore. All sounds apart from Pecussion were created using the Novation AFX station, field recordings include hammering, door slams and roadworks.

Opening titles for Taboo - Another great BBC show with very cool title sequence and great original score by Max Richter. I used prepared piano for this alongside my voice, Moog Minitaur and Saxophone key clicks.
